Newsletter for December 12-16

I hope you're ready because Christmas is right around the corner!  Can you believe we're almost to the end of the year?!  This school year has been AMAZING thus far!!!  I feel so blessed to have your incredible children in my class!

This week we will be doing lots of "Christmasy" activities!  But along with that we are learning the sight word is and the letter Oo.  In math we are moving onto topic 5: introducing measurement.  Please keep working with your child on those sight words and/or letters!  When we get back in 2012 we will be getting into reading.  It's important that they are able to recognize those sight words and are able to sound out words.

Please remember that our Christmas party is THIS Friday!  AM party will begin at 9:30 and the PM party will begin at 12:00.  Parents are welcome to come and help out!  Please just talk to my room mothers about it.  Also, my last day of teaching in December is next Friday December 16!  Students will have a sub on the following Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.  I will be back when school starts up again on January 4.

I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!  I am so thankful to have each and everyone of your beautiful children in my class!  I sure will  miss them while I'm gone!

Many of the students have asked if I would give them the link to the letter songs that we've learned in class.  I told them I would post instructions on our class blog.  There are 2 programs that are both educational and fun: if you go to youtube.com and in the search box type in "letter __ (whichever letter you want) song" it will pull up these cute songs that teach students about the sounds the letters make.  Also if you go on youtube.com and type in "alphablocks" it will pull up this great british children's show that teaches them phonics.  The episodes are only 3 minutes long but they are fun and teach some really great phonics lessons.  Please let me know if you have any problems finding these programs! jjacobson@res.washk12.org or 668-5027

Newsletter for December 5 - 9

I hope everyone had a great weekend!  I spent the last 4 days in bed with a cold but I am back at school!  I hope it wasn't too hard for the students to have a substitute for 2 days, but like I've told them before, we can't control when we get sick!

This week we will be studying the sight word have and the letter Cc.  In math we will continue to practice writing our numbers 0-9.  This week we will also be discussing nutrition and ways to avoid getting sick.

It is getting colder and some students are coming to school without coats or with really thin jackets.  Please make sure your child is dressed warm enough for recess, or they will have to sit in the office and look at books during our recess time. 

Please remember that our class Christmas party will be on Friday December 16th.  The AM party will begin at 9:30 and the PM party will begin at 12:00.  If you would like to help out please let the room mothers know.  Their names and numbers will be on the previous newsletter.

Newsletter for November 28 - December 2

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving break!  Christmas is right around the corner and in the next 3 weeks we are going to get as much learning done as possible!

This week we begin Literacy Unit 4 which centers around food.  We will learn the new sight word to and the letter of the week will be Nn.  Please remember to review the sight words and letters that we have learned thus far.  You can always look at the last page of your child's report card to see what sight words and letters are still not mastered.  In math we will continue to work on 3-D shapes and exploring numbers 0-9.  Your child should start practicing writing their numbers up to 10.  That would be a great piece of extra homework!

I am sending home today your child's ConnectEd  username and password.  This website has great resources and games that your child can use at home.  The website is on the card I'm sending home, along with the username and password.  If you have any questions or concerns please let me know!  I am fairly new to ConnectEd but if I can't help you, we will find someone who can.

Looking ahead, we will have our class Christmas party on Friday December 16.  If you would like to help out please let my room mothers know.  My AM room mothers are Jill Nielsen 862-9829 and Ashley Peterson 862-4317.  My PM room mothers are Brandy Milne 619-1106 and Megan Paxman 862-9280.

One last thing --I am going to be visiting my father this Christmas in Brazil.  I am taking a few personal days off so I can spend as much time with my family as possible.  This means I will have a substitute teacher in class from Monday December 19 to Wednesday December 21.  But I will be back for the new year! :)

Newsletter for November 14-18

Sorry for posting so late this week!  I figure since we had no school Monday and Tuesday you wouldn't mind too much!  I hope everyone (especially the kiddos!) had a nice long weekend!  We've got another one coming up!  Next week we will only have school on Monday and Tuesday.  We will have centerson those 2 days and they will be at the regular time.

Because this week and next week are so short and chaotic we are just going to be reviewing what we've learned thus far in the year and we are going to have some Thanksgiving fun!  I just want to take time to express my thanks to you as parents for your wonderful help and support in the classroom!  Also, I feel SOOOOOO  thankful for the little cuties that I am privileged to teach every day!  I truly love them!  Thank you for entrusting their learning to me!  I pray that I can help them become the best Kindergartners out there!

Newsletter for November 7-11

I decided to post this week's newsletter early!  I hope everyone had a great weekend!  I actually love that the weather is cooling down!

This week we will be reviewing the sight words see and go.  We will also review the letters Tt and Ii.  In math last week I  introduced 3-D shapes in math.  Please review cylinder, cone, cube and sphere with your child!  Have your child make connections between the 3-D shapes and objects used in their daily lives.  On Thursday and Friday we will be doing an assessment.  It is very important that your child does not miss either of those days because they will have to make up the assessment later on which is difficult to do with our limited time in school!

Remember that this Monday, November 7 is an early out day!  AM Kindergarten will be from 9:00 to 11:00 and PM Kindergarten will be from 12:00 to 2:00.  Also looking ahead, SEPs are the week of November 14-17.  Please make sure you sign and return to me your blue SEP Notification!  I told the students that if they bring back their paper signed by mom or dad that I will give them candy! (I know, I'm terrible for bribing them with sugar!!) 

In connection to SEPs, there will be NO KINDERGARTEN on Monday November 14 and Tuesday November 15.  The rest of the week we will be on Early Out Friday schedule: AM Kindergarten will be from 9:00 to 10:40 and PM Kindergarten will be from 11:35 to 1:15.

Newsletter for October 31 - November 4

I am sorry that I am posting the newsletter so late!  It has been a busy week so far!  I hope everyone had lots of fun trick-or-treating on Monday night!

This week our new sight word is go and our new letter is Ii.  In math we are discussing patterns in music.  Looking ahead, this coming Monday November 7th is an early out day.  This means AM Kindergarten will be from 9:00 to 11:00 and PM Kindergarten will be from 12:00 to 2:00.  Also, SEPs will be held the following week of November 14-18.  There will be no Kindergarten sessions on Monday November 14 or Tuesday November 15.  The rest of the week we will be on Early Out Friday schedule.  I will be sending a note home with your assigned SEP date and time.  If there is a particular day and time that works best for you please let me know ASAP.

As the weather begins to cool down, please make sure your child brings a jacket to school.  If it's cold outside and your child does not have their jacket, I will have to send them down to the office to look at books during recess.  We don't want anyone getting sick!

Newsletter for October 24-28

I hope everyone had a great weekend!  I cannot believe we are only a week away from Halloween!  This Friday is our Halloween parade and our Halloween party!  The party will begin right after the parade.  We are still in need of donations in order to purchase what will be needed for the party.  Any donations would be greatly appreciated.  Please be aware that since we will be celebrating Halloween on Friday, Monday October 31st will be a regular teaching day. 

This week we will be learning the sight word see and the letter Tt.  Please be reviewing all the sight words learned so far with your child.  In math, we will be learning about 3D shapes and patterns.  The 3D shapes your child should know by the end of Kindergarten are: sphere, cube, cylinder and cone.

Please don't forget that your child's turkey homework is due this Thursday!  I have already received a few and they are adorable!!!  I cannot wait to hang them up in the hallway!  Thank you for helping your child with this special project!

Newsletter for October 17-21

I hope everyone had a wonderful fall break!  We are only 2 weeks away from Halloween!  Can you believe it?!  Please make sure you read my take home note about our class Halloween parade, which will be on Friday the 28th.  After the parade will be our class Halloween party.  If you would like to help out please let me know as soon as possible.

Before I forget, we are in dire need of snacks!  Donations would be greatly appreciated!  I have already told students that if we don't have snacks we will not be able to have snack time.

This week is a review of the sight words like and a.  We will also be reviewing the letters Ss and Pp.  Please remember to review with your child all of the sight words and letters we've learned so far!  The sight words we've covered thus far in the year are a, can, I, like, the and we.  The letters we've covered thus far are Mm, Aa, Ss and Pp. 

This week I will be sending home a special homework assignment.  Each year all the kindergarten students make their very own turkey collage.  Students can use any sort of materials and can decorate it any way they want.  As kindergarten teachers we hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to work together with your child in creating a unique piece of art.  The students' turkeys will be displayed on our bulletin board all the month of November and right before Thanksgiving, the turkeys will go home to "celebrate" Thanksgiving with your family. :) Turkeys are due on Thursday October 27th, the day before the Halloween parade & party!  If you would like to return them earlier you may.  Please don't turn them in late since I would like to have them all up by the 28th.

Newsletter for October 10-12

I hope everyone had a great weekend!  The students and I are enjoying the cooler weather at recess!  This week is short: lots to do in 3 days!  We are learning the new sight word a and the new letter Pp.  In math we will continue to work  on counting to 10.  The new paper book that the students will bring home is entitled 'I Like.'  Please make sure they are practicing their sight words and reviewing those little books frequently.

Some students have finished all 15 task cards and are wanting more homework (weird, huh?).  If your child has already finished the 15 task cards and you would like me to give them some extra work, I will put together a weekly packet that will be sent home on Monday and that will be completed and returned to me on Friday.  Please just email me or send a note to me in your child's folder and I will set that up!

Some students have complained to me that they did not receive a reading necklace.  I want to explain how this works: each month I will give you a reading calendar on which you will write down the minutes you read to your child or that they read to you (or both).  Then at the end of the month you will return the calendar to me, I will add up the minutes, and the kindergarten class with the most minutes will win a treat!  Plus, each student will receive a new charm for his/her necklace.  Because September was the first month of the reading calendar, students receive a charm AND a necklace.  If for some reason you lose the calendar you can 1) get a new one in the office or 2) write on a paper or post it how many minutes you read that month and turn it into me.  I hope this clears up any misunderstandings!

Don't forget, NO SCHOOL next Thursday and Friday, October 13 and 14!  I hope everyone has a fun and safe Fall Break!  If you are heading to Disneyland for the break, maybe I'll see you there! :)

Newsletter for October 3-7

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!  This week we will be studying the sight word like and the letter Ss.  In math we will be working on counting from 1 to 10.  In science we are focusing on rocks and erosion.  I will be sending home today a little paper book for your child to practice at home.  Remember that these books stay at home. 

I will start sending home this week a new class book entitled "Our Class ABC Book."  Students have taken time to work on this project and I hope you will enjoy looking at it with your child.  Each child will have a turn to take this book home so please make sure you return it as soon as you have finished looking at it.  Looking ahead, next week is Fall Break!  We will have no school on Thursday and Friday October 14 and 15. 

One more note, some of you might have noticed that I have missed a few days of school.  Two of those days I had a bad cold, but there have been 3 other day I have had to go to the doctor.  I am currently having some health issues that have had me visiting the audiologist and the neurologist.  I am sure it will end up being nothing but I just wanted you to be aware.  I should not have to miss anymore school, but I will not know for sure until Thursday when I get an MRI done.  Again, I'm sure it's nothing serious but I wanted you to know that I do not take lightly missing school and being away from the students!

Newsletter for September 26-30

It's the last week of September!  Oh how time flies when you're having fun!  I hope everyone had a great weekend!  This week will be a review of the sight words we and the.  We will also review the letters Mm and Aa.  On Friday we will have the first Treasures assessment!  I will not be calling it an assessment or a test but I will explain to the children that it's a "show me what you know" page.  I don't like stressing out these little ones unnecessarily.  I am mainly teaching them how to take a test and how to sit still for 15 minutes.  Today I will be sending home a new paper book for your child to keep at home and read.  Remember that book orders are due this Wednesday!  If you have any questions on how to place an order please let me know!  Looking ahead, Fall Break will be October 13 and 14.

Newsletter for September 19-23

I hope everyone had a great weekend!  It's so nice that the weather is slowly cooling down!  This week we are studying the sight word the and the letter Aa.  I will be sending a new paper book home today and I will also have a note on book orders.  We have a book order due next week on Wednesday September 28.  On the note I'm sending home it explains the steps to follow if you are interested in purchasing books for your child.  The reason we are doing it online is because every time you place a book order, our class gets a free book!  This helps expand our classroom library and gives the students many different books to read.

Newsletter for September 12-16

I am so sorry for the late post this week!  I have been fighting a terrible cold for almost a week now, thus the reason for why your children have had a few substitute teachers!  But good news: I am back and on the road to a full recovery!  I am so sorry if while I was out things did not run as smoothly, especially with the homework task cards!  I'll make sure to get everything back in order asap!

The sight word for this week is we.  I sent home today a new paper book called "We Can."  Please make sure your child reads it to you and keeps it in the baggie I sent home.  These paper books are great for building self-esteem and confidence in reading.  The letter we will be focusing on this week is Mm.

This week we begin parent volunteers at center time!  If you have signed up for a time but forgot what day please email me or call me!  Also, remember that this Thursday, September 15 is picture day!  Wear your best smile!

Newsletter for September 6-9

I hope everyone had a great, labor-free weekend!  This is our last week of alphabet review.  Starting next week we will be introducing/learning about one letter per week.  Also this week we will review the 2 sight words we've learned so far: I and can.  Please make sure your child knows these two words.  It's important that as we learn more and more sight words, that each student can still recall them all.  Because we are just reviewing our 2 sight words, there will be no little paper book sent home this week.  Be looking for a new one next week.

This Tuesday September 6 we are starting the take home library!  This is going to be a fun learning experience for your child!  I will have instructions on how the take home library works inside of your child's baggie with their first book.  Please read the instructions carefully and be careful with the books!  If they are ruined or lost, the school will charge you $5 to replace each one.

Please remember that next Monday September 12 is an early out day!  AM Kindergarten goes from 9 to 11 AM and PM Kindergarten goes from 12 to 2 PM.  Buses will still run.

Also looking ahead, Thursday September 15 is school picture day!  Since we are a Kindergarten class, usually the photographers will get us in as soon as possible, before anyone has a chance to spill or make a mess. :) If you would like to purchase pictures, a form will be coming home this week.

Newsletter for August 29-September 2

I hope everyone had a great first week of kindergarten AND a wonderful weekend!  This week we are going to continue reviewing all the letters of the alphabet.  The new sight word for the week is can.  Please make sure that you review with your child the sight words that we are introducing every week.  So far we have learned I and can. 

I am slowly introducing center procedures each day and as soon as I have finished we will begin our center volunteer schedule.  I am in the process of typing it up and will send every volunteer a copy as soon as possible.  But don't expect to start until September 13. 

Just a reminder that next Monday September 5 is Labor Day --there will be no school.  Also looking ahead, the following Monday September 12 is a early out day for teacher training.  AM Kindergarten will be from 9 to 11 AM and PM Kindergarten will be from 12 to 2 PM.  We will not be having centers due to the shortened schedule that day.

We will begin the take home library in the next week or two.  As soon as it is up and running, I will send a note home explaining how it works.  This is a great tool to help children become readers!

I have had many students who are continually traveling to the bathroom each day.  Will you please speak to your child and explain to them that they really should not have to visit the bathroom more than 3 times while they are in school.  Most students should not have to run to the bathroom every 5 minutes.  If your child has a medical condition please let me know.  I completely understand that some children go more often than others but at this point it is very distracting to the rest of the class.

Newsletter for August 22-26

Welcome to Kindergarten!  We are going to have so much fun this year!  This week we will be mostly learning classroom rules and procedures.  It's crucial that the students understand my expectations early on so that the rest of the year can run smoothly. 

I am going to introduce some fun books with accompanying activities for our very first week of school.  We will be reading some amazing books like, "The Kissing Hand," "Chrysanthemum," "First Day Jitters," and many more!  Parents, be prepared for some tired Kindergartners by the end of the week!  In years past we have started school on a Wednesday which gives the students time to recuperate from the madness of the beginning of the school year.  But unfortunately this year, we will have a full 5 days of Kindergarten before the kids get a break!  Just be aware that this will not only be a fun and exciting week, but also a very tiring one (for teacher too!). 

For the next 3 weeks I will be doing a mini-review of the whole alphabet.  Later on in the year we will focus more on individual letters.  This week I will also introduce our first sight word: I.  In math we will be learning about the basic colors.  I am also going to teach students how to use scissors correctly and how to glue effectively (most of them want to smother their paper with glue!). 

The first day of school I will allow students to come in early and get situated.  But after Monday, morning students will not be able to come in until the first bell rings (8:55 AM) and the afternoon students will not be able to come in until 12:40 PM.  This gives me the necessary time to prepare for our day of fun-filled learning!

Newsletter for May 9-13

I hope everyone had a great weekend!  Sorry I am late again posting our class newsletter!  This is our last full week of Kindergarten!  Can you believe it?!  Time has flown by and I do not want to say good bye to these cuties!

This week we will be review the sight words: with, my, me and where.  We will also review the letters Jj, Qq, Yy and Zz.  Our last Treasures assessment will be given on Thursday.  We have some exciting news: our AM class won a pizza party from the Kite Festival!!!  The kids are super excited!!!  The party is this Wednesday.  Good job reading to all of my kiddos!  You're awesome!!!

Remember that our class program is this Friday May 13!  The AM program will begin at 9:30 and the PM program will begin at noon.  Please come a bit early so you can find a seat.  The program will be held in our classroom.

Next week there will only be school on Friday!  The other 4 days I will be assessing kids individually.  Please be on time to your appointment!  If you are more than 5 minutes late, you'll be getting a call from me! :)

Newsletter for May 2 - 6

I hope everyone had a good weekend!  We only have 13 days of school left!  Can you believe it?!  We have had such an amazing year!  Your students have learned a lot and grown into first graders!  I'm sure going to miss them!

This week we are studying the sight words where and me.  Your child should now know all 39 sight words!  Please review all these words, especially before our post-assessment week!  We are also going to be learning the letters Yy and Zz.  Along with knowing their letters and sight words, students should be able to recognize and write numbers 1 to 30.

Book orders are due this Wednesday!  Please make sure to place your order online as soon as possible!  If you do not remember how to access the book clubs online, refer back to my past newsletters.  There should be step by step directions. 

I will be sending home this week your assigned date and time for post-assessments.  Remember that these assessments last 30 minutes.  Also it is helpful if younger siblings are not present since it sometimes makes it hard for the student to concentrate.

Our class programs will be on Friday May 13.  AM Kindergarten will have their program from 9:30 to 10:00 AM and PM Kindergarten will have their program from 12:00 to 12:30 PM.  I encourage all parents to attend!  The students are very excited to show off for you!

This summer your child will have access to an exciting internet program called ConnectEd.  This program will allow your student to practice reading and phonics.  This is optional and will only be available from now until the second week of July.  If you are interesting in participating please let me know and I will give you a copy of your child's username and password.

One more thing!  We are still in need of some snacks, both in the AM and the PM classes!

Newsletter for April 26-29

Sorry for posting this a bit late in the week!  It's hard to get everything done when you only have 4 days of work!  This week we are starting our last Treasures Topic (10)!  After the 3 weeks to complete this topic we will have post-assessments and then we're done!  Wahoo!  This year has truly flown by!  I keep telling the kids I just want to keep them with me forever!  I'm really going to miss them!

This week our 2 new sight words are: my and with.  Please review these words with your child.  Also, the 2 letters this week are Jj and Qq.  We are on our final topic in math as well.  It is Topic 12: Equal groups, sharing and fractions.

Don't forget that book orders are due next Wednesday May 4th!!!  It will be our last book order of the year!  I sent a note home this week about post-assessments.  Please let me know this week if there is a specific time that works for you.  The dates for the post-assessments are Monday May 16 through Thursday May 19.  There will be no school for kindergarten that week.

Our class program will be on Friday May 13 at 9:30 for the morning class and at noon for the afternoon class.  We encourage all parents to attend.  The students are very excited to show you a few things they've learned this year.

Newsletter for April 18-21

I hope everyone had a great weekend --the weather sure was beautiful!  This week we will be reviewing our sight words: he, she, look and has.  We will also be reviewing the letters: Xx, Vv, Gg and Ww.  Our Treasures Topic 9 assessment will be on Wednesday.

On Thursday we will have our class picnic and Easter egg hunt!  I am sending a note home but I just want to remind you that each child needs to bring their own lunch and a blanket or towel to sit on.  Students do not need to bring Easter baskets, I will have everything they need for the egg hunt.  PM parents,  our class picnic will begin as soon as class starts so please make sure your child doesn't eat lunch before coming to school.

Remember there will be NO SCHOOL this Friday or the following Monday (April 22 and 25).  Also don't forget that book orders are due May 4th!  If you do not remember how to order online, please look at my previous post.

Newsletter for April 11-15

I hope everyone had a great weekend, despite the bad weather!  This week we will be studying the sight words: has and look.  We will also be studying the letters Xx and Vv.  Our social studies unit this week is on Amazing Creatures: Amazing Fish.  In Math we will begin Topic 11: Exploring Numbers 0-20.

Next week we will have our class picnic!  On Thursday April 21 make sure your child brings a sack lunch to school.  We will be having lunch on the playground along with Mrs. Hatch and Mrs. Buzzell's classes.  Afterward we will have a small Easter egg hunt inside the classroom. 

Along with our class picnic and Easter egg hunt, next week is Easter break.  There will be NO SCHOOL on Friday April 22 and Monday April 25. 

Looking ahead, Kindergarten post-assessments will be held Monday May 16 through Thursday May 19.  On those 4 days there will be NO SCHOOL and each child will have to come in for a 30 minute appointment with me.  It will be the exact same assessment that I gave the students at the beginning of the year.  I will send out your scheduled time at the beginning of May.

Newsletter for April 4-8

I hope everyone had a great weekend!  Please remember that today is an early out day!  AM Kindergarten is from 9:00 to 11:00 AM and PM Kindergarten is from 12:00 to 2:00 PM.

This week we will be learning 2 new sight words: he and she.  We will also be learning the letter Gg.  Our social  studies unit will be on living things: young and old and for our math unit we will continue discussing measurement. 

On Thursday April 21 we will have a class picnic and Easter egg hunt!  If you would like to help out please let me know.  Room mothers, I will be contacting you to plan it all out! :)  Please remember that on April 22 and 25 there will be no school.

Newsletter for Mar 28 - April 1

I hope everyone had a good weekend -despite the rain!  This week we will be reviewing the sight words: said, little, here and was.  We will also be reviewing the letters Ll, Kk, Bb and Uu.  Our Treasures Unit 8 assessment will be on Friday.

Please remember that next Monday, April 4th will be an early out day!  AM Kindergarten will be from 9:00 to 11:00 AM and PM Kindergarten will be from 12:00 to 2:00 PM.  Also be aware that there will be no school on April 22nd and April 25th.

We are still in need of snacks (especially in my AM class)!  We are running low and I have told students, if we don't have snacks we might have to forgo snack time.

Newsletter for Mar 22-25

Dear parents, I am SO sorry that it's taken me this long to post our class newsletter!  It has been a crazy week!  I hope everyone had a fun and relaxing Spring Break --the kids sure had a lot of fun things to tell me!

This week we introduced the letter Uu and the sight words here and was.  Please make sure that as we introduce new sight words you review them with your child at home.  It's amazing how easily they can pick up on new words if you just remind students to be looking for them. 

On Monday April 4th school will be dismissed early again for teacher training.  Meaning, AM Kindergarten will come from 9:00 to 11:00 and PM Kidergarten will come from 12:00 to 2:00.  Also looking ahead in April, Easter Break will be Friday April 22nd to Monday April 25th. 

One more note to my PM Kindergarten parents --PM Kindergarten normally begins at 12:45 PM but I am having some students arrive 15 to 20 minutes early every day.  I appreciate that these students are early rather than late, but it is very difficult for me to get ready for class when I've got kids in class already.  Also, students should not be playing on the playground before PM Kindergarten unless a parent is with them.  I would hate for someone to get hurt while out there and have no adult around.

Newsletter for Mar 7-11

One more week until Spring Break!  I hope everyone has something fun planned!  Please be safe if you are traveling out of town!  Remember that school will resume on Tuesday March 22.

This week our new sight words are: little and said.  The letter of the week will be Kk.  In math we are on Topic 9 'Exploring Numbers 11-15.'  Students can have a hard time writing the teen numbers so I would encourage you to practice with your child at home.  In social studies we will be talking about plating --spring's right around the corner!

Remember to keep track of your child's reading minutes for the Kite Festival in April!  If our class has the highest percentage of students come and turn in their paper, our class could win $1,000 for supplies!  That would be so amazing!  You don't even need to worry about how much your child read, just make sure you turn in your paper!  The Kite Festival is April 16th!  If you have never attended, it is so much fun!  I know that people love going every year!

Newsletter for Feb 28 - Mar 4

Remember that today (Monday) and tomorrow (Tuesday) there will be no school!  Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will be Friday early out schedule, meaning AM Kindergarten will be from 9 to 10:40 AM and PM Kindergarten will be from 11:35 to 1:15.  Next week we will be back to our regular schedule. 

This week is also Dr. Seuss week!  On Wednesday students can bring their favorite stuffed animal (one that is small enough to fit in their backpacks!).  On Thursday students can wear their Dr. Seuss hats.  And on Friday students can come dressed in their pajamas!

Some parents have expressed interest in the Tumble Books.  These are children's books that are available online.  They can be read by the child OR to the child and there are games that go along with it.  If you would like to use this amazing resource visit this website:

Newsletter for Feb 22-25

I hope everyone had a great Presidents Day weekend!  This week we will be reviewing the sight words: this, do, and, and what.  We will also be reviewing the letters: Ll, Bb and Ee.  Our social studies unit will be on state and national symbols. 

Remember that SEPs are next week!  There will be NO SCHOOL Monday and Tuesday!  The rest of the week (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday) will be Friday early-out schedule.  In my newsletter for next week I will post the SEP schedule just incase you forget.

We have a new Principal's Book of the Month!  The book is titled 'What a Wonderful World.'  And I believe it is the exact words from the Louis Armstrong song of the same title.  The pictures are beautiful and I hope you enjoy reading it with your child!

Next week, along with SEPs, it will be Dr. Seuss week!  The school is organizing some fun things for each day.  If your child would like to participate here is the schedule for the week:

Wednesday --"Wild About Wednesday" Students bring in their favorite stuffed animal to read with that day.  Please make sure that the stuffed animal is small enough to fit in your child's backpack!

Thursday --"Top Hat Thursday" Students can wear their Dr. Seuss hats.  Unfortunately, this year the school will not be selling them.  If you would like to make your own or borrow from a sibling that would be great! :)

Friday --"Fun Food Friday" Students can wear their pajamas to school AND if you would like to stay for lunch there will be green eggs and ham!!!  If you do want to stay and eat, please let me know that morning so that the lunch ladies have an accurate head count!

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!  I hope everyone had a good weekend!  This week is going to be busy!  We are having our Valentine's Day party today, plus this week we are learning 2 new sight words: and and what.  Along with those 2 sight words we are learning 2 new letters: Bb and Ll. 

Remember that next Monday, February 21st, is Presidents Day and there will be no school.  The following week of February 28 - March 4 is SEP week!  That means there will be NO SCHOOL on that Monday and Tuesday, plus the rest of the week will be Friday schedule. 

I will be sending SEP notes home this week.  Whether or not your time works for you, please send the note back.  I will explain to students that those who bring back their signed note will receive a small prize.

Newsletter for Feb 7-11

I hope everyone had a good weekend!  This week we will begin a new Topic in the Treasures program focusing on Weather/Seasons.  We have 2 new sight words to learn: this and do.  The new letter is Ee.  Please remember that Monday is an early out day due to district training!  AM Kindergarten will go from 9 to 11 AM and PM Kindergarten will go from 12 to 2 PM.

A week from Monday is Valentine's Day!  Please remember that each child is in charge of making their own Valentine's Box!  Also don't forget that each student needs to bring Valentines for the class.  There are 21 students in the AM class and 22 students in the PM class.  On the 14th, we will have 2 Valentine's centers: one will be a treat and the other a game.  After centers we will pass out our Valentines.

Please be aware that Monday February 21st is Presidents Day and there will be no school.  Also SEP week will be from February 28th to March 4th.  During SEP week, there will be no school on Monday or Tuesday.  Then Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will be a shortened schedule (Friday schedule).

SEP week is also Dr. Seuss week!  On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday we will be reading different Dr. Seuss books.  In addition, we will have daily activities that center on Dr. Seuss and literacy.  I will let you know more as it gets closer. 

One more thing I would like you to be aware of --Arbor Day posters.  Our school is involved in the Utah Arbor Day Poster Contest.  Any student from Kindergarten to 5th grade can participate.  Unfortunately, we do not have time to do this as a class BUT if your child is interested in drawing a poster please let me know.  I have a flyer with rules and instructions that I can give to you.

Newsletter for Jan 24-28

I hope everyone had a good weekend!  I spent most of last week and this weekend sick in bed but I am happy to say I am feeling much better!  I sure hope the cuties survived a week-worth of subs!

This week we have 2 sight words and 2 letters we will be studying.  The sight words are for and you.  And the letters are Dd and Rr.  We will also be reviewing the letter Hh from last week.  In math we are talking about 2D shapes.  Students should be able to recognize a circle, rectangle, square and triangle.  Please review those shapes with your child. 

Looking ahead, Monday February 7th will be an early out day.  AM Kindergarten will be from 9 to 11 and PM Kindergarten will be from 12 to 2.  Also our class Valentine's Day party will be on Monday February 14th.  Because Valentine's Day falls on a Monday we will have a shorter, low-key party.  It will last no longer than 30 minutes.  I'm not sure about the times yet but I will keep you posted.

Welcome to another week of Kindergarten!  I hope everyone had a great weekend!  This week we are starting our social studies unit on Neighborhoods.  We will also learn the sight word are and the letter Hh.  Please keep track of the sight words your child knows.  If you need a new list of the kindergarten words please let me know.

I will be sending home this week book orders.  There is no pressure to buy!  I just want to make these wonderful resources available to you.  I know at the beginning of the year I said I would not do online book orders but I have been told that it has been reformatted and it is very easy to use so we are going to try it!  If you would like to order books BUT don't have access to a computer or internet, please let me know and I will get you a hard copy of the catalogs.  Be watching for instructions on how to use the online catalog this week.

Weekly Newsletter Jan. 10-14

I am so sorry I never posted a newsletter last week!  Time just slipped past me!  This week we are reviewing the sight words is and play along with the letters Oo and Ff.  We will also be studying weather for our social studies unit. 

I sent out the Kite Festival reading log to everyone and I hope you will all participate!  It is a fun and worthwhile activity and I know that all the kids love participating every year!  Also, if we get the most students from our class there, we could win some extra prizes!  Go reading!!!
