Tomorrow you'll be receiving a reading calendar for October. You need to write in every day how many minutes YOU read to your child and, if they are reading to you, how many minutes they are reading independently. Keep these calendars safe and return them to school on the last day of the month. The PTA is going to provide different prizes, depending on how much your child reads/is read to. Also, I will be doing a little competition between the AM and the PM --which ever class reads the most minutes will win a small treat from me!
If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know! Thank you for your support! jenny.jacobson@washk12.org or 668-5027

Newsletter for September 30 - October 4
This week we are learning about the sight word like and the letter Ss. So far the sight words we have learned are: can, I, the and we. Please be reviewing these with your child! It will be a lot easier to learn them a few at a time than all 31 at the end of the year! In math we are studying numbers to 10. As we progress in math, please help your child learn to write numbers 0-10. We will be practicing at school too.
Picture Make-Up Day will be on Tuesday October 8. If you do not like the pictures taken of your child, or you forgot to pay for pictures or your child was absent, this will be the day to get their pictures taken. Fall Break will be on Thursday October 17 and Friday October 18. There will be NO school on those days.
Just as a reminder, PE is on Mondays this year. This is when your child should wear their tennis shoes AND their BYU shirt. Mondays will be our college days this year. Then Fridays will be our Riverside days when your child will wear their Redhawks shirt (if they have one).
If you have any questions or concerns please let me know! jenny.jacobson@washk12.org or 668-5027

Newsletter for September 23 - 27
This week we will be reviewing the sight words we and the. We will also be reviewing the letters Mm and Aa. In math, we will finish up our unit on Numbers 0-5 and we will begin our unit on Numbers to 10.
Remember that Monday September 23 is a short day! AM kindergarten will be from 9:00 to 10:30 and PM kindergarten will be from 10:45 to 12:45. PM Parents: please make sure to not bring your child early. I would much rather they be a few minutes late than arrive early, considering I only have 15 minutes to clean my room and get ready to teach. Thank you!
It's still pretty hot even though we are almost to October! Especially in the PM, if your child would like to bring a water bottle that is fine. Just make sure it has a good lid (I don't want lots of spills or the custodian will have my head!) and please ONLY bring water. NO juice, Gatorade, etc.
Please keep practicing writing numbers 0-5 at home! As we go further in our math program, students are going to do a lot of writing numerals. I don't mind at all if students are reversing their numbers but I would like them to get the general form.

Newsletter for September 16 - 20
This week our sight word is the and the letter we will be learning about is Aa. In math we are discussing the concepts of equal, less than and greater than. If possible, as math homework, please have your child practice writing their numbers 0-5.
Today I will be sending home the first show and tell assignment of the year. Parents, your job is to read the book inside the BYU bag titled "Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge" with your child. Then you will look around your home and find the 5 things listed on the instructions (inside the book): 1) something warm, 2) something that makes you cry, 3) something that makes you laugh, 4) something from long ago and 5) something as precious as gold. The BYU bag will be passed around to each student so remind your child to be patient --we've got a big class!
If your child missed Picture Day or if you end up not liking your child's pictures and want retakes, Picture Make Up Day is October 8. Pictures should be sent to the school in the next 3 to 4 weeks.
This Thursday September 19 at 6:30 PM will be our school's Carnival/Dance! Kindergarten will be performing first at 6:30 PM, please make sure your child is a few minutes early so we can set up. Also, we are hoping (fingers crossed!) that our college shirts will be in by then and that will be what they will wear that evening. If not though, we will have them wear their Riverside shirts. I will send out a text on Wednesday night letting you know what we end up wearing.
We are running low on snacks again! If you could donate any kind of snack (pretzels, chips, cookies, crackers, fruit, string cheese, etc.) it would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thank you for your help and support! If you have any questions please let me know! jenny.jacobson@washk12.org or 668-5027

Newsletter for September 9 - 13
This week we will be learning the sight word we and the letter Mm. So far, the sight words your child should know are: I and can. Please keep up with the sight words, as it will be a lot easier to learn them 1 or 2 at a time than learning all 31 at the end of the year. In math we are going to continue working with the numbers 0 - 5.
This Monday is an early out day due to teacher training. AM kindergarten will be from 9:00 to 10:30 and PM kindergarten will be from 10:45 to 12:45. The reason that PM is a little longer than AM is due to bus schedules.
Tuesday is picture day! Please make sure to either fill out the form and place your money with it, then return it to me OR pay online. You have to pay for the pictures ahead of time! Please make sure you bring in your order form and money by Tuesday!
This week we will begin using our center volunteers! Please let me know if you forgot what day/time you signed up for! Looking forward to your help!
Looking ahead, the PTA is sponsoring a Carnival/Dance Festival. This will be on Thursday September 19 here at the school. Our kindergarten students have all learned a dance and will be performing it at the festival! All kindergartners will be wearing their college shirts for the performance (shirts have been ordered and should be arriving soon)! We hope everyone can come support Riverside!
