Remember that Monday December 3 is an early out day! AM kindergarten will be from 9:00 to 10:30 and PM kindergarten will be from 10:30 to 12:45.
This week we will be learning the sight word have and the letter Cc. In math we will continue working on measurement. I have typed up the list of kindergarten sight words and will be sending that home on Monday. Please make sure to review those words with your child.
Looking ahead, Friday December 21 is the last day of school before the holidays. We will have our class Christmas party on that day. Our Christmas Break will be from December 22 to January 2. We will return to school on January 3.

Newsletter for November 19-20
It's a short week! Because we are only in school 2 days this week, we will not be introducing any new sight words or letters. Also, there will be no centers. On Monday we will have a corn tasting party. Students will get to try 3 different foods made out of corn and then we will graph which one was our favorite. On Tuesday is the school's Homecoming Parade and Turkey Bowl. Our BYU T-shirts are in, so I will hand them out on Monday and students will wear them on Tuesday for the parade! The parade will begin at 1:30 so AM parents, you are more than welcome to bring your child at that time. They can walk in the parade with us and then they will return to you. You are also invited to stay for the Turkey Bowl. 5th grade students will be playing against a few of the teachers. There will be Star Class both Monday and Tuesday.
The week after Thanksgiving, remember that there will be NO kindergarten on Monday and Tuesday. The rest of the week will be regular Friday schedule (AM 9:00-10:40 and PM 11:35-1:15). There will be Star Class on that Wednesday and Thursday, it will just be a shortened schedule and they will be out by 1:15 PM.
Now that the weather is getting colder, please make sure your child brings a jacket/coat. If they do not have a jacket/coat I will not allow them to go out to recess and they will have to sit in the office.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving! I am very thankful this year to have such amazing students! They are amazing! I look forward to meeting individually with you in a couple of weeks! Thank you for all your help and support! If you have any questions or concerns please let me know! jjacobson@res.washk12.org or 668-5027

Newsletter for November 12-16
This week we are starting a new unit in literacy! The new sight word will be to and the new letter will be Nn. As report cards are coming up, please review with your child all the sight words we have learned thus far. There are 9: a, can, go, I, like, see, the, we and to. In math we will also begin a new unit: Introducing Measurement.
Be sure to check your assigned SEP (parent-teacher conferences) time which I sent home. Please let me know if it will not work with your schedule ASAP. I have 44 appointments and very little wiggle room so I hope most times will work!
Looking ahead, there will be NO school on Wednesday November 21, Thursday November 22 and Friday November 23 for Thanksgiving. The day before the break, Tuesday November 20 will be our school Homecoming Parade and Turkey Bowl. The parade will be held at 1:30 and we will (hopefully) all wear our college shirts! Because the parade is in the afternoon, AM kids are invited to come join in on the parade if parents are able to bring them. The parade shouldn't last more than 15-20 minutes. The Turkey Bowl will be the 5th graders playing against some of the teachers. It should be a fun day!
If you have not yet ordered your college shirt you have until tomorrow, Friday November 9! The cost is $10. Also, remember that there will be NO kindergarten on Monday November 26 and Tuesday November 27 due to SEPs. The rest of that week will be the regular Friday schedule.
If you have any questions or concerns please let me know! jjacobson@res.washk12.org or 668-5027

Newsletter for November 5-9
I hope everyone had a great weekend! What beautiful weather we have been having! This week we will be reviewing the sight words see and go. We will also be reviewing the letters Tt and Ii. In math we will be finishing up our unit on exploring numbers 0-9. On Thursday we will have our first unit assessment for Treasures! Please make sure your child is on time that day!
Some parents have asked me if our class has a college that we represent. We do. I haven't really spoken about it to the students because I feel that at this young age they are already having a hard time knowing how they fit into the Riverside community and they don't really understand what a university is. Our school is Brigham Young University. I am sending home a note today for college T-shirt sign ups. Mr. Staheli really wants all of us to have a class T-shirt that we can all wear once a week. If you could please fill out the form ASAP then hopefully we will have our T-shirts in by the week of Thanksgiving. The Tuesday before we leave on Thanksgiving break we will have a school wide Homecoming parade and celebration and all the students will wear their school's T-shirt. Please understand, even if you are not a BYU fan, that this is a way to promote the idea of going to college. Just because your child is wearing a BYU T-shirt does not mean they have to go there or support BYU. I hope everyone will participate in this unity building and college promoting activity. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Please remember to let me know ASAP if there is a specific date or time that you need for your SEP (parent-teacher conferences). I will be sending home your scheduled time next Monday. Also looking ahead, Friday November 16th is Moms and Muffins. I believe it will be at 8:00 AM in the lunch room. This is a great way for moms to spend some time with their children at school.
