Newsletter for November 4 - 8

First off, thank you so much for your help and support on Halloween and 50s Day!  It meant a lot and the kids had a great time!

This week we will be reviewing the sight words see and go and the letters Tt and Ii.  We are also going to continue in math with composing and decomposing numbers to 10.  I have started assessing for our coming SEPs (parent-teacher conferences) and have noticed that students do not know their numbers 0 to 20.  If possible, please review recognizing 0-20 (out of order) and writing 0-20.

I will be sending out book orders on Monday.  You can either fill out the form and write a check to Scholastic OR you can order online.  The info will be on the note sent home.

Please let me know ASAP if you need a special date/time for SEPs (parent-teacher conferences).  I have 41 students to fit in and a limited amount of time, so the sooner I know what you need, the better!  I will be sending out your scheduled appointment next week.

Remember that the week of SEPs (November 18-22) there will be NO KINDERGARTEN that Monday and Tuesday.  Then Wednesday, Thursday and Friday is the Friday shortened schedule: AM kinder from 9:00 to 10:40 and PM kinder from 11:35 to 1:15.

Thanksgiving break will be Wednesday November 27 to Friday November 29.  If you have any questions or concerns please let me know!  jenny.jacobson@washk12.org or 668-5027

Newsletter for October 28 - November 1

This week we will be learning about the sight word go and the letter Ii.  In math we will finish our unit on numbers beyond 10 and will begin the unit on composing and decomposing numbers to 10.

Thursday is our Halloween parade and party!  The parade in the AM will begin at 9:15 and the parade in the PM will begin at 1:00.  Students will have to wear their costumes all day so please make sure they are comfortable and that they can easily use the bathroom.  Following the parade we will have our class Halloween party!

Friday is our 50th day of kindergarten and we will be dressing up in our best 50s get up!  Even though Fridays are always short days, this Friday will be even shorter!  AM kindergarten will come from 9:00 to 10:30 and PM kindergarten will come from 10:45 to 12:45.  PM PARENTS, it will help us out so much if you can bring your child as close to 10:45 as possible and not any earlier!  Thank you!

At the end of the week, make sure to return your child's purple reading calendar for October, with their name on it and the total reading minutes for the whole month.  We will see which class (AM or PM) read the most minutes!  There will be some sort of prize involved!

Parent teacher conferences (SEPs) will be held on the week of November 18- 22.  There will be NO KINDERGARTEN on that Monday November 18 or that Tuesday November 19.  Instead I will have individual appointments with each student and their parents.  Then the rest of the week (Wednesday Nov. 20, Thursday Nov. 21 and Friday Nov. 22) will be a short Friday schedule --AM coming from 9:00 to 10:40 and PM coming from 11:35 to 1:15.  On those days I will have individual appointments with each student and their parents, from 1:30 to 4:00.  If you need a specific day/time for your appointment please let me know ASAP.

Looking ahead, our Thanksgiving break will be Wednesday November 27 to Friday November 29.  School will resume on December 2.  If you have any questions or concerns please let me know!  jenny.jacobson@washk12.org or 668-5027

Newsletter for October 21 - 25

Sorry this week's newsletter is late!  This week we will be learning about the sight word see and the letter Tt.  In math we will continue to study numbers beyond 10.

Next week is Halloween!  Please remember that kindergartners have to wear their costumes to school all day.  They are not allowed to bring any kind of fake/plastic weapon and they can only wear a mask during the parade.  The AM parade will be at 9:15 and the PM parade will be at 1:00.  Please arrive a few minutes early so you can find a good spot to take pictures!  Our classroom parties will be following the parade.

The very next day, Friday November 1, is our 50th day of kindergarten so we will be celebrating in 50s style!  Kids can dress up in any 1950s attire and we will be doing a few fun activities to celebrate making it through 50 days of school!

Now that it is getting a bit cooler, especially in the mornings, please send your child to school with a jacket or sweatshirt.  If it's too cold outside, I will not allow students outside for recess, and they will have to sit in the office.

If you have any questions or concerns please let me know!  Thank you so much for your help and support in our classroom! jenny.jacobson@washk12.org or 668-5027

This week we will be reviewing the sight words like and a.  We will also be reviewing the letters Ss and Pp.  In math we are starting a new unit on numbers beyond ten.

Remember that there will be no school this week on Thursday and Friday!  I hope everyone has a wonderful Fall Break!  Looking ahead, our Halloween parade will be on Thursday October 31 at 9:15 for the AM class and at 1:00  for the PM class.  The kindergarten parade will be around the kindergarten playground and won't last more than 5 minutes, so make sure you come on time!  Our class Halloween parties will be right after the parades.  My room moms will be calling those who signed up to help in classroom parties at the beginning of the year to have you come in, set up and help.

Following Halloween, the very next day November 1, is going to be our 50th day of kindergarten!  So we are going to have a 50s Day party with all sorts of fun 50s activities!  Students will be able to dress up like typical 50s boys and girls!  I will send a note home explaining more later on.
