Newsletter for October 1-5

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!  Next week we will be learning the sight word like and the letter Ss.  In math we will be discussing counting up to ten and in science we will learn about rocks and erosion.

Several students have asked me about show and tell.  I am planning on doing show and tell but I am waiting on an order from Barnes and Noble before I can start it --I will explain why later on.  Also, some of you have already seen the "Getting to Know You" book.  Each student will be bringing home the book to show their family.  Please make sure not to lose the book or to keep it for too long since there are other children waiting to take it home.

Looking ahead, Fall Break will be on Thursday October 18th and Friday October 19th.  If you have any questions or concerns please let me know!  Thank you for your help and support! jjacobson@res.washk12.org or 668-5027

We want to make sure that all students are safe as they leave the school each day.  We would like to remind you that we cannot allow students to walk out to your car if you are on the street or the no parking zone.  You have to be in the drop off zone which begins after the parking lot cross walk and goes to the end of the lot.  Also, we are trying to remind students to walk and not run to their vehicles.  Please review these rules with your child.

We will begin center volunteers next week, September 17-21.  I will be sending a note to those parents who signed up for centers this week.

Newsletter for September 4-7

I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend!  This week we are reviewing the sight words I and can.  We are also going to learn about our 5 senses and we will continue discussing numbers in math.  Today I will be sending home some name writing homework.  As your student finishes a sheet, please send it to school and they will be able to receive a treat from the vending machine.  Please try to do 1 page per night and not all 4 in one sitting.

Also going home today is a reading calendar.  As you read with your child, please write down the minutes every night on this calendar.  At the end of the month you will return it to me and the kindergarten class with the highest reading minutes will win a prize!  This is a fun school-wide activity and it's a great way to keep track of your family's reading!

Please remember that next Monday September 10 is an early out day due to teacher training.  AM kindergarten will be from 9:00 to 10:30 and PM kindergarten will be from 10:30 to 12:45.

For AM parents, if you can please speak with your child and explain to them that they will have to be extra patient with Miss Jacobson since we have such a big class starting today.  We will discuss it in class as well, but I know how hard it is at the beginning of the year for students to understand that there is only 1 of me, and especially with such a large number they will need to be mindful of that.

If you have any questions or concerns please let me know!  Have a great week! jjacobson@res.washk12.org or 668-5027
