Class Bulletin Board!

Just wanted to share our latest class bulletin board, because I think it turned out so cute (if I do say so myself!).

Newsletter for April 2-5

I hope everyone is enjoying our gorgeous weather!  This week there will be no school on Friday or the following Monday (April 6 & 9).  We are starting a new unit in literacy about amazing creatures.  We will be learning about insects.  Our two new sight words are he and she.  Our new letters this week are Gg and Ww.  In math we are starting Topic 11: exploring numbers 0-20.

Don't forget that this Thursday April 5 is our class picnic and Easter egg hunt!  AM class will have their picnic at 10:30 followed by the egg hunt.  PM class will have their picnic at 12:45 followed by the egg hunt.  If your child is in my PM class, please make sure they do not eat lunch before the come to school.  Remember to have your child bring his/her sack lunch and a towel or blanket sit on.

As the weather starts getting warmer and warmer, I need to remind parents of some our school rules.  Students are not allowed to wear open-toed shoes.  This is for the child's safety as we have had many students stub their toes on our big heavy classroom doors.  I have already explained to the students that if they come to school in open-toed shoes they will have to call home for a change in shoes AND they will not be able to have recess.  The other school rule is that students cannot wear spaghetti strap shirts.  It's okay if they wear sleeveless shirts if they completely cover the shoulders.

Newsletter for March 26-30

This week we are reviewing the sight words little, said, here and was.  We will also be reviewing the letters Kk and Uu.  In math we will finish up our unit on measurement and in social studies we will be learning about spring! 

As the weather starts warming up, please remember that students cannot wear sandals to school.  We have had several accidents involving little toes and our big heavy classroom doors.  This school rule is in place for your child's safety. 

There will be no school on Friday April 6 and Monday April 9 due to Easter Break.  Also, on Thursday April 5 our class will be having a picnic and Easter Egg Hunt!  Your child should bring their own sack lunch, along with a blanket or towel that they can sit on.  Parents are more than welcome to join us!

Remember that the Kite Festival is coming up!  Make sure you fill out your reading calendar so you can get a free book or kite and the Kite Festival!  The class with the most turned in calendars will win a pizza party!

Newsletter for March 19-23

I hope everyone had a fun and relaxing Spring Break!  Wasn't the weather gorgeous?!  I hope it comes back!  This week our 2 new sight words are here and was.  The new letter is Uu.  In math we will continue to discuss measurement.  Since spring is around the corner, we are going to be discussing plants and doing some gardening of our own!

I have sent home book orders.  You are not required to purchase anything, but if you would like to order please make sure you have your check and order form in to me by Wednesday March 28th.  You will see on the book orders that there is an option of purchasing online --we are not using that feature because for the past 2 years it has been glitchy and we have had several problems.  We are just going to order through the mail.  If you have any questions about the book orders please let me know!

Looking ahead, there will be no school on April 6 and 9.  The day before, Thursday April 5 all the kindergarten classes will have an Easter egg hunt and picnic.  For the AM class it will be towards the end of the session.  For the PM class it will be at the beginning of the session.  I will send home a note explaining specifics as the time draws nearer.  I am asking for donations of plastic Easter eggs and candy to put in them.  Any donations would be greatly appreciated!!!

Newsletter for March 5-9

First off, I want to thank all of you for meeting with me during SEP week!  It was so nice to visit with all of you and share your child's achievements!  I feel so lucky to have such a wonderful group of kids!
This week we are beginning a new Language Arts unit about Plants.  Our new sight words are little and said.  Our new letter of the week is Kk.  In math we are starting a new unit as well on measurement.
I mentioned to a few of you at SEPs that there are 2 wonderful educational websites that I recommend using at home.  The first one is starfall.com and the second one is tumblebooks.com.  You need a username and password for the Tumble Books and it is --username: riversideelem password: books  Please let me know if you have any problems accessing these 2 websites.
All next week is Spring Break!  There will be no school from Monday March 12 to Friday March 16.  Also looking ahead, our Easter Break will be on Friday April 6 and Monday April 9.  The day before Easter Break, Thursday March 5 we will have an Easter Egg Hunt and picnic in class.  Students will bring a sack lunch and a blanket or towel from home.  As the time approaches I will send a note home with more details.

One more thing: we go through a LOT of glue sticks in kindergarten and I am in need of more glue sticks right now.  Any donations would be GREATLY appreciated!
